The journey to the top of the SERP’s

When it comes to SEO it’s hard not to feel like newcomers with the amount of change that takes place in the industry, and I am newer to the concepts of Cryptocurrency. My years of working in the marketing world have presented me with opportunities to explore multiple segments within the industry. SEO and Crypto are 2 of the most interesting areas for me. Their fundamental complexity has drawn me in like a drama-filled Reality TV program.

Working SEO in conjunction with the Crypto landscape presents some challenges due to their complexity, however, I am used to complex verticals like healthcare and subfields such as Neurosurgery. SEO can be challenging but isn’t brain surgery, so going back to the fundamentals of SEO can help to alleviate some pain points.

The goal of this article is to help answer some of the questions that every newcomer to SEO asks themselves and how to incorporate these practices into not only the Cryptocurrency Industry but across all verticals.

SEO Basics

SEO is a foundation for any successful web-based company…it just is. It’s not fun or cutting edge like many of the new projects in the Crypto world, it’s just work; work that has to be done to build your organization.

So why write about it? Well, I’ll get to that but basically it’s because there are many different ways to get to the end goal, and “how” you do SEO is as important as “why” you do SEO.

What is SEO?

SEO is the most commonly used acronym for “search engine optimization”. Its primary function is to increase the quantity and quality of traffic to your blog or website, as well as increase the visibility of your brand through non-paid or organic search engine results.

SEO is about what users are searching for online, the keywords that they are using to find the answers they seek, and the various types of content they are looking to consume -AND- connecting them to your products or services. The more that you know about your online audience, the more solutions you will be able to offer to them.

The other side of SEO is to understand how search engines crawl your content and understand the intent of the content being delivered. This is a whole different topic and will be discussed in a later article but the 2 parts go hand in hand.

Why is SEO important?

SEO is a tool that helps provide your business with greater searchability and visibility on Search Engine Results Pages or SERP’s.

The 800lb gorilla in the search engine world is Google so we’ll be using Google as the primary example.

The vast majority of web traffic that is generated for your business’ website is driven through organic search channels, this is what shows up in the Google search results.

These organic search results cast a wide net across the internet and receive way more clicks than paid advertisements that are generated through Google Search (PPC) efforts and Social Media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter (approximately 20 times more traffic opportunity).

Google uses its technology to scan your site and make sure you show up when someone is looking. Although we are living in a world where machine learning is becoming savvier each day, we still need to provide search engines with pertinent information about our content.

Site optimization helps to deliver the information to search engines through the use of focus keywords, meta descriptions, and alt text so that your content can be easily crawled and indexed to be displayed in the organic search results. This is the technical end of SEO and involves our proprietary information but how it’s done is critical to getting good results…not all SEO is created equal.
